Laurier Homecoming 2020 proved the Laurier spirit isn’t confined to our campuses, a stadium or a court. The task of rethinking Homecoming, an event with decades of in-person tradition to take shape in a virtual world was no small feat. Through this session, we look to convey how we successfully planned virtual Homecoming leaving alumni saying “This has been the best homecoming so far!”, while inspiring others to think outside of the box in reimagining traditional programming, and encouraging the coordinated use of social media to help event success, our strategy that landed #LaurierHomecoming on Twitter’s Trending in Canada list.
- Successfully transitioning large scale in-person events to virtual events
- Rethinking traditions for longevity and application in a virtual world
- Utilizing social media engagement to enhance virtual events
